What is TTE?
The Troops to Educators program (TTE) is Arizona's version of the national Troops to Teachers program (TTT) and is a free service to help active-duty, their spouses, veterans, and reservists navigate the certification process to begin a new career in education for Kindergarten through the 12th grade. Eligible participants can receive educational counseling, certification recommendations, and employment referral assistance throughout Arizona.
Eligibility requirements: Honorable service with a minimum 4 years active-duty or 6 years reserve service.
TTE is Arizona's response to the DoD's decision to end the national TTT in October 2020. States offering similar Troops to Teachers programs may still be available. Please visit DANTES-TTT for more information. The National Defense Authorization Act of 2022 re-established TTT through 2025; however, no funding was provided to support the national program. Financial incentives may be available to cover some if not all costs through various scholarships, state agencies, veteran organizations, or Tuition Assistance programs offered through your branch of the armed forces.
Arizona Teachers Academy offers a zero to low-cost option to obtain a degree in education. (Requirements and offerings vary by each state university or community college) Additional financial resources may be available through your local USVets-Phoenix office.
Have a Bachelor's Already! "Arizona Teacher Residency" will pay for your Master's in Education, provide living stipends, and mentor support among other benefits to help you become a great teacher in Arizona.
The Arizona Department of Education is committed to helping those currently serving, including active-duty spouses, or those who have recently separated with an initial certification fee waiver. The Fee Waiver-Military Eligibility form must be mailed prior to submitting any application for certification.
TTE Program Registration is required. (see button above)
