Traditional Educator Preparation Program Approval Procedures
New PPI Readiness Process
- Designed to determine if the institution has the capability to design, submit, and implement an education preparation program.
- By Arizona Revised Statute, the Department prescribes the forms used to facilitate the application process.
- Basic information regarding the fiscal, physical, and programmatic capabilities of the institution is submitted to the department.
- The Department reviews the submission and notifies the institution’s readiness to submit a program for review.
Submission process
- The Department provides form and the platform for submitting the program for review.
- The institution populates the forms with information related to the program:
- Criteria for student entry into the program
- Courses and seminars for the program
- Field and Capstone experiences
- SEI endorsement requirements
- Evidence of data literacy instruction
- Evidence of technology integration instruction
- Description of the assessment of student progress toward competencies
- Description of the plan to evaluate the program
Review process
- The Department may conduct an onsite visit.
- The program is reviewed by a “Review Team”, as defined in R7-2-604.
- The Department will, within 90 days of submission of the program, provide a report of the Department’s findings.
- Deficiencies, if present, will be addressed by the institution within 30 days.
- The Department will recommend to the Board that the educator preparation program be approved or denied, based on the review summary.
- If approved by the Board, the approval will not exceed six years.
Implementation phase
- Within 45 days of program completion, approved programs will provide an Institutional Recommendation to program completers.
- During the six-year period, the institution will:
- comply with reporting requirements and
- complete a biennial report detailing substantive program changes.
Alternative Educator Preparation Program Approval Procedures- State Board Rule R7-2-604.03
Submission process
- By Arizona Revised Statute, the Department prescribes the forms used to facilitate the application process.
- Program competencies are submitted to the Department via the application.
- The program is reviewed by a “Review Team”, as defined in R7-2-604.
- The Department will recommend to the Board that the educator preparation program be approved or denied, based on the review summary.
- If approved by the Board, the approval will not exceed six years.
Implementation process
- Within 45 days of program completion, approved programs will provide an Institutional Recommendation to program completers.
- During the six-year period, the institution will:
- comply with reporting requirements and
- complete a biennial report detailing substantive program changes.
Classroom-Based Educator Preparation Program Approval Procedures- State Board Rule R7-2-604.05
Submission process
- By Arizona Revised Statute, the Department prescribes the forms used to facilitate the application process.
- Program competencies are submitted to the Department via the application.
- The application shall include the following:
The name of the program;
The areas of certification for which the applicant will offer the program;
Verification that individuals to be enrolled in the program will have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution;
Verification that individuals to be enrolled in the program will have a valid fingerprint card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety;
Individuals enrolled in the program possess:
1. The name of the program;
2. The areas of certification for which the applicant will offer the program;
3. Verification that individuals to be enrolled in the program will have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution;
4. Verification that individuals to be enrolled in the program will have a valid fingerprint card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety;
5. Individuals enrolled in the program possess:
- a. An emergency teaching certificate; or
- b. An alternative teaching certificate.
- c. Individuals enrolled at a charter school classroombased alternative preparation program are not required to possess a certificate.
6. Data supporting the efficacy of its teacher preparation program, which may include stakeholder surveys, completer data and student achievement data. The school district or charter school may contract with a third party provider to provide the classroom-based alternative preparation program and may use that program’s efficacy data to meet this requirement.
- The program is reviewed by a “Review Team”
- A review team shall review the application and make a recommendation to the Board as prescribed in R7-2-604.03(B) through (E) a R7-2-604.03(B) through (E)
- The Department will recommend to the Board that the educator preparation program be approved or denied, based on the review summary.
- If approved by the Board, the approval will not exceed six years.
Implementation process
