Special Education Directors,With input from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, the ADE/ESS developed policies and procedures for Early Childhood Special Education Transition that are aligned with the IDEA. Following the public participation process set forth in IDEA and GEPA regulations during Spring 2022, ESS considered all public comments and finalized its policies and procedures document. The finalized document is also available on the ADE/ESS website.

Each year, ESS updates its contact lists of Lead Speech-Language Pathologists, Lead Occupational Therapists, Lead Physical Therapists, Lead School Psychologists, and Assistive Technology Specialists.

The Early Childhood Quality Improvement Process (ECQuIP) is a process that was developed by the Early Childhood Education Unit to assure quality and accountability for programs that receive state funding or other early learning grants. ECQuIP is a programmatic self-assessment process that asks early childhood teams to identify and rate such practices as instruction, assessment, leadership, and climate.

Special Education Directors,The Arizona Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ArSHA) will be holding its annual convention in Phoenix on March 31–April 1. There will be hundreds of Speech-Language Pathologists, Speech-Language Technicians, and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants attending this event. The Arizona Department of Education sponsors the public school strand at the convention to support high-quality, relevant professional learning for school-based speech personnel. This year’s sponsored topics include remediation of speech sound disorders and developmental language disorders, assistive technology (AT), augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and supporting students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
