DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Portal information icon added for select applicationsTo aid Public Education Agencies in their interaction with ESS applications, a new information icon is available for select applications in the ESS portal. Selecting the information icon will produce a pop-up window with more information about the application, roles required to access, contact information, and website links for more training or information.The blue information icon can be found to the left of the application button if available for that application. Additional applications will have information icons added in the coming weeks.

Are you looking for Speech-Language Pathologists and/or Speech-Language Pathology Assistants? On November 18–20, 2021, ADE/ESS will be recruiting for speech personnel on behalf of all public education agencies (PEAs) at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) annual fall conference. ESS will operate a booth in the virtual exhibit hall to promote the advantages of working in a school setting and to showcase speech vacancies in Arizona's public schools.

We are pleased to announce the ESS Discipline Data Collection (DDC) application is now open for FY21 SPED discipline incident submissions. All disciplinary incidents that result in the removal of a student receiving special education services are required to be submitted in the DDC application. The application will only accept incidents for students reported as SPED in AzEDS on the date of incident. More information about the ESS Discipline Data Collection is available on our Annual SPED Data Collection webpage.

Are you looking for Occupational Therapists and/or Occupational Therapy Assistants?In October 2021, ADE/ESS will be recruiting for OT personnel on behalf of all public education agencies (PEAs) at the Arizona Occupational Therapy Association’s annual fall conference. ESS will operate a booth in the exhibit hall to promote the advantages of working in a school setting and distribute flyers listing all current and anticipated OT vacancies in Arizona public schools. We will also run a banner ad on the conference website directing OTs to the Arizona Education Employment Board.

ESS Data Management has released two new training videos. These training videos focuses on Phase II: Reconciliation so individuals can pick and choose the relevant training videos that meets their needs.As a friendly reminder, please continue checking the SPED07 report on a regular basis during this time, even if your PEA’s counts reconcile early in the process. Please ensure Phase II: Reconciliation is completed in AzEDS by Friday, January 15, 2021 at 5:00 P.M. Note there is no submission action for Phase II. Ensuring your Verification and SPED07 counts reconcile on January 15th will indicate completion.

The ADE/ESS Secondary Transition Unit is excited to bring back Transition Tuesdays for Fall in the 2020-21 school year. There will be multiple opportunities to engage with the team while they host both transition-related topics as well as office hours. Registration will be required for all events, and a link will be disseminated 1 week before each event. We hope you can attend Transition Tuesdays!

The Exceptional Student Services Data Management team is happy to announce an upcoming October 1 Data Collection—Phase III: Non-Reconciliation training. Phase III is only for the PEAs that could not match the number of SPED students submitted in Phase I with the number of SPED students in AzEDS during Phase II. PEAs will receive an email if they qualify for Phase III on March 4, 2024.

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT Weekend closure of Exceptional Student Services Portal and ApplicationsPlease be aware that all ESS Applications will be unavailable on Saturday, November 5, 2022. The applications will be back up and running no later than Monday, November 7, 2022. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.The Exceptional Student Services IT team will be updating the Exceptional Student Services Portal and ESS Applications over the weekend. During this update, all ESS Applications, Online Forms, and ESS Portal will be unavailable in ADEConnect and links will be deactivated on ESS websites.

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERTExceptional Student Services (ESS) Discipline Data Collection (DDC) Application Opening September 14The ESS DDC application will open for fiscal year (FY) 2023 incident entry on September 14, 2022.There are no significant changes to the DDC application this school year. ESS requires all Public Education Agencies (PEAs) to manually enter or bulk upload discipline data incidents into the DDC application. The XML Schema for PEAs choosing the bulk upload option is unchanged.
