U.S. Senate Youth Scholarship Program

The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service.

The 63rd annual United States Senate Youth Program Washington Week is being planned to be held in person in Washington, D.C. March 1–8, 2025.

Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Students must be actively serving in high-level elected or appointed leadership positions to qualify to apply. 

Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense, and directors of other federal agencies, as well as usually participate in meetings with the president and a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel, and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.

2024 USSYP Arizona Recipients

The Arizona Delegates this year are Camillia Baker and Isaac Ormand:

Camillia Baker

Camillia Baker, a senior at Arizona College Prep High School, is renowned for her role as a U.S. Senate Page and her profound leadership in youth civic engagement, particularly as a National Communications Committee Representative and Arizona Co-Chair of the High School Democrats of America. Highlighted in the SanTan Sun News for her legislative contributions, including attending a joint congressional session with the Prime Minister of India, she's also deeply involved in politics at a grassroots level. In addition to her political endeavors, Camillia excels as a competitive figure skater and champions environmental causes as the Maricopa Youth President of the American Conservation Coalition. Her diverse involvement and dedication to community service mark her as a dynamic force for positive change in her community and beyond.

 

 

Isaac Ormand

Isaac Ormand a homeschooling junior, currently dual-enrolled at Pima Community College and studying for a degree in CyberSecurity, serves as the President of his Youth And Government delegation and is also the Speaker of the House of Youth And Government for the 76th Model Legislature. He previously served as the House Chaplain, Senate Sargeant at Arms, Committee of the Whole Chair, and Committee Chair for the Judiciary, Education, and Infrastructure committees. He was awarded Best House Delegate in 2021, and Best Legislation in 2022. As a delegate to the 2023 Conference On National Affairs (CONA), he advocated a comprehensive solution to the dredging crisis at our ports. He will return to represent Arizona at the 2024 CONA. Isaac is also a nationally ranked speaker and debater, currently holding the title for 1st in Arizona and 4th across the country. In addition to competing, Isaac also co-teaches an introductory Lincoln-Douglas Debate class for high schoolers. As an ambitious entrepreneur, he operates a small tech business for repairing, troubleshooting, and consulting customers on their technology needs. He is honored to represent Arizona in the United States Senate Youth Program and looks forward to experiencing Washington DC.
